Basanti Government Industrial Training Institute
NCVT-affiliated craftsman training in nine engineering and non-engineering trades, in the heart of the Sundarbans.
Basanti Government Industrial Training Institute is a Government Industrial Training Institute at Uttar Sonakhali in the Basanti block of South 24 Parganas, established in 2016 and affiliated to the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT).
The institute runs courses under the Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) of the Directorate General of Training, Government of India. Training is deliberately workshop-first: a trainee spends the larger part of each day on practical work at the bench, the machine or the panel, supported by trade theory, workshop calculation, engineering drawing and Employability Skills.
For young people of Basanti, Gosaba, Canning and the surrounding islands, a National Trade Certificate is one of the shortest honest routes from Class X to a wage-paying job, an apprenticeship, or a workshop of one's own.
Nine NCVT trades — six of two years and three of one year. Each course follows the DGT syllabus and leads to the National Trade Certificate on passing the All India Trade Test.
Installation, testing, maintenance and repair of electrical machines, wiring systems, switchgear and control panels used in industry and buildings.
Precision fitting, assembly, alignment and maintenance of mechanical components, machines and pipelines in engineering industry.
Assembly, testing, servicing and repair of electronic circuits, consumer electronics, instrumentation and communication equipment.
Diagnosis, servicing, overhauling and repair of light and heavy motor vehicles, including modern engine management systems.
Installation, charging, servicing and repair of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
Land and construction surveying, levelling, contouring and preparation of maps and site plans using modern instruments.

A two-storey institute building constructed for training, with separate workshop bays, theory classrooms, an administrative block and open campus space.
Each trade has a dedicated workshop laid out and equipped as per the DGT tools and equipment list for the Craftsman Training Scheme.
A computer lab with internet connectivity supporting the COPA trade, Employability Skills classes and online examinations.
Trade theory books, DGT syllabi, reference volumes and competitive examination material for trainees.
Well-lit classrooms with teaching aids used for trade theory, workshop calculation, engineering drawing and Employability Skills.
Fire extinguishers, first-aid provision, safety signage and mandatory personal protective equipment practice in every workshop.
The National Trade Certificate awarded on passing the All India Trade Test is recognised across India and accepted for government recruitment, apprenticeship and overseas employment.
Most of the training week is practical work in the trade workshop, on the equipment the DGT syllabus prescribes.
The Training & Placement Cell helps trainees register on the Apprenticeship India portal and connects them with employers and campus drives.
Government fee structure, with scholarships available to eligible SC, ST, OBC, minority and merit candidates through the state and national portals.
Applications for CTS courses are made through the West Bengal centralised online ITI admission portal. Check the notice board for the current schedule, or call the institute office for help with your application.
