What you will learn
- Bench work, marking, filing, drilling, tapping, sawing and precision measurement
- Turning, milling, grinding and basic machine-shop operations
- Assembly and alignment of bearings, couplings, gears, belts and chain drives
- Pipe fitting, sheet-metal work, welding fundamentals and hydraulics / pneumatics
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T symbols
Where it leads
- Fitter, maintenance fitter or assembly technician in engineering and process industry
- Technician grade posts in Indian Railways, ordnance factories, PSUs and state utilities
- Quality inspection and CNC machine-shop support roles
- Apprenticeship in medium and large manufacturing units
- Self-employment through a small fabrication or job-work workshop
Course structure
The syllabus for this trade is notified by the Directorate General of Training and is common across all NCVT-affiliated ITIs in India. Contact hours are divided between:

| Engineering Drawing | Reading and producing the drawings the trade works from (two-year trades). |
| Employability Skills | Communication, IT literacy, entrepreneurship, labour welfare and workplace conduct — common to all trades. |
| On-the-job training / project | Industry exposure and a trade project as prescribed in the current syllabus. |
